Our Team

Our fantastic team of volunteers was brought together from a wide range of diverse backgrounds from veterans and non-veterans, blog writers, designers, consultants, strategists, as well as passionate individuals interested in giving back to veterans and protecting the environment.
Ryan is the brains of the entire movement. He served in the United States Army specializing in Psychological Operations and has multiple tours to Afghanistan, both as a soldier and contractor, under his belt. After suffering from PTSD with little help from the VA, he established Veterans Off-Grid to help fellow struggling veterans feel the pride of serving.
Jennifer is a writer, yogini, Reiki energy worker, and mother of three boys. She first became involved with Veterans Off-Grid in the Fall of 2017 when she wrote a story about Ryan Timmermans and his mission to help veterans in Taos, New Mexico's blog magazine, LiveTaos.com. Since then she came on board to promote Fundraising and Community Outreach. As a Yoga teacher and Reiki energy adept she is deeply connected with holistic approaches to healing trauma and making a difference for a better world through community, awareness, and sustainability.
Colby is a former United States Marine Corps Corporal specializing in military intelligence. After an honorable discharge, he served as a federal contractor in Afghanistan where he became acquainted with Ryan Timmermans. Following two tours in the sandbox, he lived in Germany for a year to decompress and experience his ancestral heritage. Later, he became employed in Nebraska working for the government; however, he again moved to his home in Kansas City to pursue higher education at Kansas University focusing on environmental studies, sustainability, and project management. With Veterans Off-Grid, Colby serves as content manager, blog writer, and serves on the Board of Directors.
Terry is a member of the Veterans Off-Grid Board of Directors and proud father of Ryan Timmermans, the founder of Veterans Off-Grid. Terry is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the 101st Airborne Division from 1968 to 1969. Upon returning home from the war, he served a 34-year career with IBM until retiring. When Terry isn't enjoying retirement, he supports our non-profit by advising, collaborating with other board members for executive decisions, and establishing input processing procedures and documents to be used for our residents. Furthermore, Terry is a member of the Eastern Carolina Homeless Organization (ECHO).
Julia has worked in visual communication for both public and private sector organizations since 1986 and is a proud mom of two teenage daughters. Hailing from the Arizona desert, she has explored working as a graphic designer in Boston and Chicago, founded three design businesses in Prague, and relished working as a managing art director at The New York Times. In New Mexico, she continued graphic design practice, learned to farm and produced for markets, and earned an online MBA. One evening she ran into Jennifer, who introduced her to Ryan and was immediately impressed and motivated by the mission of Veterans Off-Grid. She hopes to use her skills to promote this mission clearly and effectively, so that more veterans, as well as other individuals in need, can participate.
Kerri is an elementary educator living in North Carolina. She met Ryan Timmermans at Appalachian State University. Her uncle was an Air Force Colonel and has two veteran brothers of both the Army and Navy. She is exceptionally passionate about connecting church groups with Veterans Off-Grid in support of bridging partnerships between volunteers and this company. Kerri wishes every veteran to know they are appreciated, valued, and not forgotten.
Kyle is Veterans Off-Grid's consultant for sustainable agriculture as well as for grants, planning, and fundraising. He has several years of experience with non-profits and supporting wounded warrior plus in-depth knowledge of sustainable farming. He inputs his thoughts and expertise whenever he can and looks forward to watching the organization reach out to veterans in need to help alleviate the afflictions they carry. On a personal note, Kyle is no stranger to PTSD as he has been exposed to it since his early childhood, which has given him a unique perspective on what our brothers and sisters may be struggling with.
Colin moved to Kansas City in 2017 to be part of a young adult program at Radiant Church. During his time at the church, he took college classes including an environmental science class where he met Veterans Off-Grid's Content Manager Colby Carson. Colin got involved with Veterans Off Grid as a blog writer after seeing the opportunity to promote sustainability and responsible stewardship. He plans to study international relations in college. Once completing a degree in International Relations, he hopes to work with international churches and build on the foundation laid by veterans to stabilize regions in conflict.
Keith joined Veteran's Offgrid as Volunteer Coordinator following a four-year cross country soul-searching trip. Lacking community and longing to be a part of something bigger than himself, he was immediately attracted to our organization. Keith met with owner Ryan Timmermans and listened to his multi-faceted vision for empowering homeless veterans while simultaneously tackling the more significant environmental issues impacting the greater society. Our newest member has a background volunteering with numerous nonprofits and retail management. He is a massage therapist and breath-work facilitator, and is deeply passionate about self-empowerment, especially in the areas of personal health, education, and finance.
